CENTRAL AFRICA SUB-REGION

MOUVEMENT DES INTELLECTUELS CATHOLIQUES DE CONGO -DRC

Members recognised that the Central Africa has been affected by armed conflict and this has affected the growth of the movement in the region. The strongest movement in the region is MIIC-RDC. MIIC RDC is quite present in the local churches in RDC. MIIC-RDC has been part of the structures of the National Episcopal Conference in Congo. Its members are well represented in activities of the National Episcopal Conference including those related to electoral reforms, civic education among others. Members agreed on the following.

  • Revitalizing Pax Romana within the Sub-region: MIIC-RDC will support the revitalization of the movement in Cameroon. MIIC-RDC will also support the creation of the movement in Burundi, Rwanda, Congo-Brazzaville and the Central African Republic
  • Formation for Chaplains: Chaplains are also changing too quickly leading to discontinuity in ecclesiastical support. In addition, those who take up responsibility as chaplains also need formation in order to ensure not only the sustainability of the Movement, but also to provide them with solid tools to properly support our movements.
  • Support the Pax-Romana Regional Office: MIIC-RDC and Cameroon are proposing the legalization of the office.
  • Transition from IMCS to ICMICA: In terms of seamless transition from IMCS to ICMICA, the Democratic Republic of Congo proposes that the members of the Region duplicate its strategy in this regard.

MOUVEMENT CHRETIEN DES CADRES ET DIRIGEANTS DU GABON (MCC-G)

« Soyez ce que vous êtes et, valorisez ce que vous faites »

In 2006, under the direction of Mgr Jean-Pierre Ellelaghe Nze, Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Libreville and teh parish priest of Saint André parish, young executive Gabonese who joined the MCC in France during their studies, decided to initiate themselves the MCC Gabon using MCC methods. This approach responds to the need for real Christian commitment in political, economic and intellectual circles.

2006 The project team

“We have found the Messiah” Jn1: 40.

An invitation was sent to other officials at St André parish. A project team is set up “tempore res experendi” to inform and raise awareness of the methods of the MCC, then to establish the Movement in all the dioceses. The purpose of MCC was to help its members live the Gospel better where they exercise their responsibilities. This was appealing to many. Thus, the first team  expanded with new membership from diverse backgrounds. Beyond catechizes, the MCC allows them to emphasize and focus on their responsibilities and the action within their capacity.

  • MOUVEMENT DES INTELLECTUELS CATHOLIQUES DE CAMEROUN

Pax Romana Cameroon comprises of MIIC – International Movement of Catholic Intellectuals of Cameroon and IMCS – International Movement of Catholic Students of Cameroon.

In 2013, there were efforts to bring together different Catholic professionals groups including Catholic lawyers and also integrate young people in the movement. During this period, there were monthly meetings to raise awareness about the movement and recruit members. MIIC Cameroun was involved in various socioeconomic and political realities of Cameroun. For instance, it issues various statements on radio and print media on social issues including corruption.

CHALLENGES

It has been difficult to encourage the affiliation of professional groups (Catholic lawyers, Catholic workers’ movement) in MIIC Cameroon.  MIIC Cameroun is yet to hold election to ensure transition in leadership. In terms of resources mobilization, the movement is in the process establishing the structure and the strategies.
