MOUVEMENT DES INTELLECTUELS CATHOLIQUES DE COTE D’IVOIRE
Officially created on March 02, 2016, by the former members of IMCS-MIEC, MIIC-Pax Romana Côte d’Ivoire, has set up as a working tool the Compendium of the Social Doctrine of the Catholic Church (DSE) to establish itself solidly in the Diocese of Abidjan.
With regard to this working tool, and in order to make itself known, the MIIC-Pax Romana Côte d’Ivoire has organized since its establishment, until today, four (4) working sessions on the DSE, for Students and young professionals of the Diocese of Abidjan. These working sessions were organized in the form of a workshop. Deep reflections on the socio-political situation in Côte d’Ivoire have been carried out in the light of the DSE. Thus, each participant was able to form an opinion of this wonderful working document, because the trainers approached each chapter with illustrations related to our daily experience. These working days allowed the members to get to know the Social Teaching of the Church.
During these days of reflection, MIIC members were able to note that this important document of the Church, which is the DSE, remains little known to laity in Côte d’Ivoire. The participants therefore suggested organizing training campaigns on the content of the DSE across all the Dioceses of Côte d’Ivoire. A global work plan has been drawn up to translate the recommendations of the different work sessions into action.
MIIC-Pax Romana Ivory Coast, also undertook several meetings with the authorities of the local Church, in order to make itself known. We were able to meet the Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Abidjan, the Chaplain Fathers of youth movements, the leaders of the association of Catholic jurists, the National Office of the YCS-Young Catholic Students, and the Fathers in charge of the lay apostolate from different dioceses, with the aim of sharing with them the project of setting up MIIC in Côte d’Ivoire, and thereby determining the framework for collaboration.
In its strategy of recognition and national establishment, MIIC-Pax Romana Côte d’Ivoire, has introduced files at the level of the Ministry of the Interior, so that the structure is recognized at the level of national authorities as a local NGO in charity.
Also, the organization of this pan-African seminar contributes to the visibility of the MIIC-Pax Romana Côte d´Ivoire. Indeed, the press, the Church authorities and the sister organizations, invited will be able to relay information about the existence of the structure in Ivory Coast. Here are ladies and gentlemen, the strategy used by MIIC to establish itself in Côte d’Ivoire. Ultimately, we would like to be the lay association of reference in Côte d’Ivoire, whose mission is to support the efforts of the Ivorian prelate. This, dear friends, is what we can share about our experience.
